Sometimes you are lucky enough to have a big ol’ family. And sometimes you are lucky enough to have all of that family come back to your hometown for Thanksgiving. And sometimes, that means you just have so very, very much work to do, that you allow all other responsibilities fall to the wayside. Because sometimes you are lucky enough to be happy to say that family always comes first.

I’m taking the rest of the week off for Thanksgiving with my family.  I hope you have a good thanksgiving–or just a good week if that’s more you style.  I’ll see you next Monday.

Small Breaks

In continuation of “Not My Best Year Ever,”  I spent the beginning of this week being admitted to the hospital after an ER visit, and then being surgically separated from my gallbladder, who all in all had been treating me very poorly anyway.  I’m home now, and I’ll be all fine in no time at all.

However, I’m on some pretty impressive painkillers for a little while.  Even though writing on strong painkillers sounds like an interesting experiment, I’m not sure that the kind of thing I want to share with the whole world before I get the chance to read it again with a level head.

So, I’m sorry for my absence this week, and I’ll be taking next week off as well.  I’ll be returning to my posting on July 25th.  Mondays-Thursdays I’ll be doing my usual little bits of fiction, and then I will spend Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays catching up for the Legal Theft Project for which I have fallen woefully behind.  Thanks for your patience, and I’ll see you guys back here soon.

A Bit of a Break

For two years, I’ve been updating this site every single day.  That is a short story every day for over seven hundred days.  That is a lot of writing, and a lot of posting, and a lot of work.

So, as a Christmas present to me, I’ve decided to take the end of December off.  I’ll relax, spend time with family and friends, and be ready to take on the new year with vigor.

So, thank you all for being patient, enjoy the mid-winter holiday of your choice, and I will see you all on January 1st.

Fiction: Round Trip Ticket (137 words)

She liked being away from home.  There was something excellent about seeing things she’d never seen before or talking to people she’d never met, or experiencing things that she’d never dreamt she’d be doing.  They often told her with a scoff that she was born with an explorer’s heart and a young soul and it was teasing that she would gracefully and eagerly live up to.

But, at the same time, there was something lovely about coming home, about driving along streets that she’d known since childhood, to see friends a family, and to just be completely comfortable with everything around her.  She loved knowing all the secrets of the place and being able to navigate with her mind turned off.

She was completely of two minds about where she wanted to be, and that was perfectly okay.

Birthdays (100 words)

My birthday falls weird this year.  Half way across the world, the actual moment of my birth falls on a different day.  When my friends take me out to dinner, my family won’t even think of it as my birthday yet.  When my mother relieves that afternoon visit to the hospital, I’ll already be tucked into bed, my day over, ready to face the next three hundred and sixty-four days until I’m another year older.  Does that make me older or younger than I think I am?

Time is never more relative then on a birthday fourteen timezones from home.
