Fiction: Simple Requests (99 words)

09 Jan

Don’t break my heart.  I’m not saying that you have to love me forever.  I’m not saying that we can’t get into fights.  I’m saying don’t mistreat me.  Respect me as a person.  Respect me for what I am. I promise I’ll do the same.  Don’t break my heart, and I swear I won’t break yours.

It shouldn’t be that hard, right?  To treat each other with respect.  To treat each other like human beings.  But experience has taught me that is not the case.  So, I’ll ask you one more time, for good measure, don’t break my heart.
