Taryn hesitated on the balls of his feet, wondering how there could be so much hazard in the cut of a smile. And if she winked, forget it. He was sure to come out of it all missing a limb. But, today, it was just a smile, so he was figuring stitches, and maybe a concussion.
“It’s ridiculous, you know. The way she has you wrapped around her pinky finger like that.” Jaden chuckled, marching in step next to his best friend.
“She’s my princess. How else am I supposed to be around her?” Taryn chuckled.
“Exactly, she’s a princess. She smiles at everyone like that. She rewards all her soldiers with a kind word. You’re not the only one, Taryn.”
“No, but I am special. Our love is stronger than the little things of this world. Our love is something that the common man couldn’t dare to understand.” Taryn chuckled, “Ours is a magical love.”
Jaden rolled his eyes. “You’re going to get us killed for courtly love, aren’t you?”
“Well, J, you are free to leave my side at any time. I’m not making you risk your life.”
There was a second’s hesitation before Jaden sighed. “March on, Taryn. We’ve got a job to do. All in the name of courtly love.”
“Otherworldly love,” Taryn corrected, but they marched on nonetheless.
