Fiction: Secrets and Promises (127 words)

“My sisters are—uh—well…It’s kind of hard to explain. Most people don’t really get it or are willing to understand what’s going on with my sisters.”

Livia reached out to take Rory’s hand.  “It can’t be that bad, can it?”  Rory gave her a look so Livia back pedaled a moment.  “I love you, Rory. Regardless of who your sisters are or what your sisters do—I love you. Your sisters cannot scare me away, okay?”

“Yeah? You think you can keep that promise?” Rory scoffed a little.

Livia looked him in the eye and with the straightest face he’d ever seen, Livia said “Yes.  Yes I am sure that I can keep that promise.”

And for the first time ever, Rory believed the promise.
