Fiction: Low Rates (131 words)

16 Jan

“You want to do something stupid, don’t you?” Grant studied Haley’s smile over the edge of his book.  When that smile got just a hair wider, he had his answer. “Oh no.”

“Not stupid—No, Just–”

“If you say ‘just fun’ I would like to remind you of the list of words we posted that we consider synonymous with your idea of fun,” Grant interrupted.

Haley deflated just a little bit, “Okay, so maybe it’s a little stupid, and a tiny bit dangerous, but it’s mostly fun I promise!”

He considered her smiling face for a  moment longer, and then sighed, “Probabilty of bodily harm?”

“Low—really low. Like mid twenties percent chance.”

Grant stuck his bookmark in and dropped the book onto the chair next to him.  “Okay, okay. Let’s hear it.”
