“I’m tired,” she sighed, blood running down the side of her face, starting somewhere under her hair. She faltered as she tried to take a step forward, and he held out an arm to steady her. He wondered how many of her injuries he couldn’t see. “Can we go home?”
He nodded and scooped her up in his arms. She curled into his chest, almost appearing asleep. She hadn’t seemed so small to him in ages. “Of course, baby girl, Let’s get you home.”
And he knew his daughter would be dead before he could get her to help.
